The signifier Brut Art is used to loosely describe art which is produced outside the mainstream. Alternatively, terms such as Outsider Art or Raw Art are also used. While each has staked out a defined territory which attempts to distinguish it from the others, it would be acceptable to apply any of these to the art in the exhibition arrivals and departures.
This group of artists works in a community (Artworks) that offers space and materials. The program was established to offer an open and accepting environment that encourages working in the arts to give structure and validity to the everyday lives of the participants. To give each person a sense of purpose and a means of expression that serves as a bridge to connect them to others.
